This has become a very popular service since the NHS no longer fund IV sedation. We practice in line with the IACSD guidelines for conscious sedation in dentistry. We always bring an experienced nurse who beforehand addresses the child’s or parent’s anxiety and applies numbing cream for the IV cannula site. Recovery is on average within 30 mins of completion of the procedure.
Especially autistic children and those with learning difficulties, but also those with parents worried about their children experiencing pain. Our most requested reason for children’s procedural sedation are for circumcisions. Our minimum age is 6 years or 20 kg weight.
Dr Rudi is PALS qualified and his nurse PILS qualified to address any emergency situation relating to sedation. This takes pressure off the dentist and their team.
